Here are some ideas and guidelines to read before sending one in.

Begin with a line or two about the meaning or history of the recipe in your family or life, or its connection to Key West or the KWWC if that exists. (Don’t worry if you’re not a writer, we can help with this!)

1. 1-3 lines introduction if you have them

2. list of ingredients with measurements

3. Describe steps for putting the dish together

Be careful about copyright. In other words, don’t send us a recipe from a magazine or cookbook or another chef and call it your own. The general rule of thumb is that you can’t copyright lists of ingredients. But you can get in trouble for copying specific wording in the directions and explanations about the recipe. If you want to use someone else’s recipe it should be rewritten in your own words, and also adapted. If it resembles the original recipe, the writer should say ‘adapted from.’ If you were strongly influenced by another person’s recipe, you can say something like ‘inspired by.’ When, in doubt, give attribution.
